About Yu Cun

If you’re the kind of person who enjoys discovering Chinese restaurants that feel approachable yet full of character, let me introduce you to Yu Cun Restaurant, often simply called Yu Cun by regulars who already know what they’re coming for. Located at 147 Upper Paya Lebar Rd, Singapore 534849, Yu Cun sits comfortably in a neighborhood spot that feels easy to drop into, whether you’re planning a relaxed family meal or a casual dinner with friends after a long day. From the moment you step in, the Chinese restaurant vibe comes through clearly, not in an over-the-top way, but in a warm, familiar style that makes you want to settle in and take your time. I usually tell people that Yu Cun is the kind of place where sharing dishes just feels natural, thanks to a menu built around small plates that invite conversation and exploration. At the same time, there are vegetarian options available, which makes it simple to bring along friends with different preferences without overthinking the plan. Another thing worth mentioning is how flexible Yu Cun can be, because you’ve got choices like dine-in for a full experience, takeaway when you’re short on time, and even outdoor seating if you feel like enjoying your meal with a bit of fresh air. It also helps that Yu Cun offers alcohol and beer, which pairs nicely with the food and keeps the atmosphere lively without turning it into a loud drinking spot. I’ve noticed that late-night food is part of the appeal too, making Yu Cun a reliable option when most places nearby are already winding down. Overall, introducing Yu Cun always feels easy, because it’s not trying to impress with gimmicks, but instead focuses on being a solid, welcoming Chinese restaurant where good food, relaxed service, and an unpretentious setting come together in a way that feels genuinely satisfying.

Ordered the must-have Claypot Curry Fish Head alongside some other dishes like the eggplant. It is definitely a very heavy meal, which requires you to pair with rice. It would be best to come in bigger groups to get more dishes, perhaps some lighter ones, and feel free to ask for a top-up of curry at $3.

Curry is absolutely delicious and as you would expect it. Ordered the not so spicy and it was a tolerable heat level.Highly recomend a higher heat level. The portion is relatively huge, ordered for 3 people but we almost couldnt finish it. Fish is fresh and for the price of $38 it is a good deal. The shrimp chicken it very good too with crispy outer skin and juicy meat. Sambal kang kong is fresh and a slight wok hei taste to it Service is absolute. Good manners, fast service and warm people. Love it. Atmosphere wise, we sat outside after a rainy session and it was as cooling as it could be. The only downside are the flies flying around which i dont really fault the restaurant. The table is beside a small road which is beside a main road with cars and buses driving past. In Summary, highly highly recommend. It is very popular with long lines.

The dish definitely lived up to the shop's title. All of the dishes are very well made, and the portion is good for its price. There are quite a few unique dishes you cannot find anywhere else, I recommend giving them a try. Unfortunately there isn't any single portion dishes like fried rice and noodles, which is quite unexpected. The staffs are also professional and very helpful. Definitely made the experience a lot better.

Food is good. Curry fish head is not spicy. Tasty gravy but the fish portion is small and the brinjal/ladies fingers is little . Vegetables stir fry is crisp and fresh. Charcoal tofu is crispy on the outside and firm soft inside. Very nicely prepared. Pork ribs is ok. Tender. Claypot chicken has a bottle of chicken essence poured in when served. It does not actually enhance the taste cos the gravy itself is tasty. A pity the chicken essence is not being fully consumed since it’s all mixed into thick gravy. Will order again but without chicken essence. For families going with an elderly, please do request for ground level seating where possible. Else if given L2 seating there are a flight of steps to walk up, not elderly friendly. Recommend to come makan here.

It’s our first visit and we love the fish head curry! It was lovely especially since we like ‘tau kee’ and there were plentiful. The chilled sweet sour pork was a twist from our usual tze char standard. But it was delicious with the mango and dragonfruit on top. Service staff were attentive and they were served with a smile! We will be back for more!

4 paxs - we order the set for 3 paxs. Add a rice sufficient, and added mantou for the curry sauce. The sauce is also good for the rice. Fish is pretty fresh. Vegetables are okay. Tofu is also nice. Worth it

Their curry fish head is superb! They don’t take reservations, but we were lucky to be given a VIP room for our group of six. It was a full house on a Saturday dinner, and almost every table was ordering their curry fish head. Dishes were served quite fast and arrived together, which made the meal even more enjoyable. Highly recommended!
